International FORUM

"FOSTERING INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION FOR

STRENGTHENING KNOWLEDGE TRIANGLE in MOLDOVA”

Hosted by the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova

Chisinau, Moldova

23-24  March 2017

Several policy statements stress that higher education institutions (HEIs) have a central role in building a Europe where the impact of knowledge accumulation can be measured in terms of economic, social and ecological progress. The Knowledge Triangle highlights the importance of jointly fostering research, education and innovation, and of paying due attention to the linkages between them.

Universities are unique institutions in combining education, research and innovation activities as part of their mission. Universities play a vital role in attracting talent, educating the labour force of the future, and preparing the next generation of researchers. These highly-skilled professionals are essential to building research and innovation capacity of the country and to enhancing its competitiveness on the international level through generating high value-added products and services.

Today, we are confronting with a continuing economic and social crisis, dramatic levels of unemployment, increasing marginalization of young people, demographic changes, new migration patterns, and conflicts within and between countries, as well as extremism and radicalization. On the other hand, greater mobility of students and staff fosters mutual understanding, while rapid development of knowledge and technology, which impacts on societies and economies, plays an increasingly important role in the transformation of higher education and research.

The 3rd Annual International Forum “TRIANGLE” of the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova (ASEM) in 2017 will be realized under the theme “FOSTERING INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION FOR STRENGTHENING KNOWLEDGE TRIANGLE in MOLDOVA” in order to foster international cooperation among Higher Educational Institutions from Moldova and European Universities and to support strengthening the role of universities in linking EDUCATION, RESEARCH and INNOVATION in a KNOWLEDGE TRIANGLE in Moldova.

The TRIANGLE 2017 is held with the support of the European Commission through: INTEGRA project “Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence in European Economic Integration Studies“.

Some workshops and round tables within the Forum’s sessions are supported by the following projects, co-financed by the European Commission:

ELEVATE project elevating the internationalisation of higher education in Moldova”, co-financed by the Erasmus + programme of the European Union;

EU2INNO project “Jean Monnet Chair in EU Policies towards Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship», co-financed by the Erasmus + programme of the European Union;

TEMPUS Entrepreneur Alumni NETwork EANET project

This forum represents also a follow-up and dissemination activity within FKTBUM project ”Fostering the Knowledge Triangle in Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova” (co-financed by the Tempus programme).

The Forum opens with a look at the above links of the KNOWLEDGE TRIANGLE on a systemic level, through the eyes of the hosting country Moldova, while taking into account the European Commission’s view on Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI), and we will be inspired by major academic voices on the national and European levels. We will then go in details into each of the key features of the Knowledge Triangle. The three parallel Forum sessions (with interactive workshops, roundtable sessions and panel discussions) will develop the three major themes, namely identifying professional higher education in the EHEA, creating knowledge in the institutions in close cooperation with stakeholders, and finally how to make this Knowledge Triangle work, for the benefit of institutions, students and graduates.

We look forward to welcoming a large number of students, university teachers, public servants, professional groups’ and civil society representatives, university leaders (including vice-rectors for research and other senior staff) as well as higher education and research stakeholders, including representatives of national rectors’ conferences, research organisations, public authorities, representatives of business society and young researchers from Moldova and EU (altogether 300 people).

Welcome from the Organiser

On behalf of the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova, it is my pleasure to welcome the international and national experts, as well as guests participating in the 3rd Annual International Forum “TRIANGLE-2017” Forum, which will take place on 23-24 March 2017. As an institution characterized by its high standards in education, internationally competitive research and entrepreneurial approach, it is a great pleasure for the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova (ASEM) to be hosting this event.

At the ASEM, research and education go hand in hand. We carry out ground-breaking, innovative research and work constantly to further innovation in education. Here, internationalisation is not just a buzzword; we strive to offer the chance to study abroad to as many of our 10211 students as possible. Our research activities do not stop at the border. And we also achieve excellent scores in the various rankings when it comes to international cooperation.

We are convinced that the dynamic atmosphere at both the ASEM and in the City of Chisinau – the central part of Moldovan’s economy – will help to make this Forum a great success. The fascinating discussions and workshops will no doubt lead to many new connections with national and international colleagues.

 I very much look forward to meeting you in March and to welcoming you to the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova!
